How to Watch IPTV on Samsung TV and LG Televisions

Smart IPTV Canada setups are popular because they remove the need for a streaming stick or box. Modern Samsung televisions run Tizen and modern LG televisions run webOS. Both include an app store where player apps for live TV can be installed in a few clicks.

The catch is that app availability depends on your television’s model and year. A 2019 or newer TV usually has plenty of options. Older sets may have fewer apps or slower processors, and in that case a Fire TV Stick or Android box is a better route. If you are unsure, read on and then ask us with your TV model number.

Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) differences

On Samsung, open the Apps section from the home screen and use the search icon. On LG, open the LG Content Store. Both let you search by name and install apps like a smartphone. Some apps identify your television by a device ID or MAC address shown on first launch. If the app you pick does, you can send that ID to us and we will explain what is needed for your login.

When a smart TV is the right choice

A smart TV is the most convenient way to watch IPTV if you rarely change settings and want fewer remotes. For the most demanding use, such as 4K live sports, a dedicated streaming box has a faster processor, and you can use both: the box in the living room, the smart TV app in the bedroom.

Before you begin

Step by step

How to Set Up IPTV on a Samsung or LG Smart TV

The flow is similar on both brands. Menu names vary by software version.

  1. Connect the TV to the internet

Use Ethernet if your TV has a port, or join your 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. Update the TV software from the settings menu.

  2. Open the app store

On Samsung, open Apps. On LG, open the LG Content Store. Use the search icon.

  3. Search for a player app

Search for an IPTV player that supports a username, password and server URL login. Install the one that is available on your model.

  4. Launch the app

Open the installed app. Some apps show a device ID or MAC address on the first screen. Note it down.

  5. Add your login

Select the option to log in with credentials and enter the server URL, username and password from your email. If the app uses a device ID system, follow its on-screen instructions.

  6. Load the channel list

Allow the list to finish downloading. Large lists load slowly on older TVs, so be patient.

  7. Pin favourite channels

Create a favourites list so you do not have to scroll through the full lineup.

  8. Check picture settings

Switch your TV to a Movie or Standard picture mode and turn off heavy motion smoothing for live sports.

Recommended Player Apps for smart TV

Availability varies by model, but these types of apps are often found in the Samsung and LG stores:

  • Smart IPTV style players — Simple apps that display a playlist from a link or login.
  • IPTV Smarters style players — Apps with a modern layout and a live, movies and series split.
  • Browser-based playback — On some TVs a web player in the built-in browser can work as a backup.

We do not own or control these third-party apps, and store availability can change. If an app is missing or stops working, tell us which device you have and we will suggest an alternative that works with your login.

If your TV does not have a suitable app

Do not replace the television. A streaming stick or Android box costs a fraction of a new TV and works on every model with an HDMI port. See the Firestick guide or the Android box guide.

Tips for Smooth Streaming on smart TV

  • Prefer a wired network connection. Smart TV Wi-Fi chips are often weaker than a router.
  • Turn off “Instant On” or Eco modes that limit network power, if channels disconnect.
  • Keep the TV software updated, since updates often fix video decoding bugs.
  • Restart the TV by unplugging it for 30 seconds if the app freezes.

Samsung & LG Smart TV Troubleshooting

The app is not in my store

App availability depends on region and model. Try searching a different name or use a streaming stick as a backup.

The app shows a MAC address but no login box

Some apps use device activation. Send us the device ID and your order number and we will advise.

The channel list loads slowly

Older TV processors are slow with very large lists. Hide categories you do not need to speed it up.

Video freezes on live sports

Move to Ethernet, close other apps, or switch to a stick for the busiest games.

Sound is out of sync

Change audio output settings on the TV or choose the “PCM” option in the app.

Understanding Your Login Details

After your Interac e-Transfer is received, we email the details you need. Depending on the app, you will see a server URL (sometimes called a portal or host), a username and a password. Some apps ask for a single playlist link instead. Always copy the details exactly as written: a missing letter or an extra space is the most common reason a login fails on smart TV setups.

Keep your login private. It is tied to the number of devices you ordered, and sharing it with friends can cause both of you to be logged out. If you lose the email, check your spam folder or contact support with your order number.

How Much Internet Speed Do You Need?

Live TV uses a steady stream of data, and the amount depends on picture quality. As a rule of thumb, a standard-definition channel needs about 3 Mbps, an HD channel about 6 to 8 Mbps and a 4K channel 20 Mbps or more. Add a margin for other people using the network at the same time. If your household streams on several screens, aim for at least 25 Mbps for HD or 50 Mbps for several 4K screens.

Run a speed test from the same room where your smart tv is located, not only next to the router. If the result is much lower than your plan, try a wired connection, move the router, or switch to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. These small changes fix most buffering complaints without any extra cost.

Quick Checklist Before You Contact Support

  • Re-type your login details and confirm there are no spaces.
  • Restart the app, then the device, then the router.
  • Test another channel and another device to see whether the issue is with one channel or everything.
  • Note any error message, your order number and your device model.

With that information, our team can usually find the cause within a few minutes.

Use the Same Login on Other Screens

Your plan is not limited to one kind of screen. When you order, you can choose up to five devices, and each extra device adds 60% of the plan price. A common setup is a main television in the living room, a second box in the bedroom and a phone for travel. Browse the other setup guides to see the steps for each one, or read about the channel lineup to decide which package suits you.
